چکیده
ABSTRACT Vegetable crops are exposed to constant infection by numerous diseases, including those caused the oomycete Phytophthora capsici. This microorganism is a polyphagous plant pathogen, capable of infecting dozens species, cultivated plants and weeds. The aim this review address topics related etiology symptoms diseases (leaf blight, root rot, crown rot fruit rot), as well integration application different control alternatives, such genetics, cultural, physical, biological, chemical. Crops sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum), chili spp.), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), eggplant (S. melongena), cucurbits (Cucumis sativus, Cucurbita among others, subject considerable economic losses induced pathogen. High soil humidity, high temperatures, resistance structures pathogen (oospores), scarce availability resistant cultivars reduced range effective fungicides conditions that difficult management P. capsici in field. Despite irrefutable importance existing information regarding its integrated limited. Therefore, successful will depend great extent on knowledge control. Thus, joint strategies seeks maintain at low population levels also keeping epidemics under threshold loss. At end, an pest approach for could result higher returns, long-term sustainable harvests, reduction environment impact better quality products consumers.

Interspecific hybridization and apomixis between Phytophthora capsici and Phytophthora tropicalis.
Phytophthora capsici and the closely related Phytophthora tropicalis infect different hosts that have documented overlapping geographical distributions. Phytophthora capsici attacks annual vegetable hosts whereas P. tropicalis has been recovered from woody perennial hosts. Our objective was to test whether interspecific hybridization is possible and to characterize the resulting progeny. Crosse...
متن کاملThermal inactivation of Phytophthora capsici oospores.
BACKGROUND Phytophthora capsici is a major fungal plant pathogen that causes root and crown rot of pepper crops and its oospores are the most resistant propagules. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of different temperature regimes and exposure times on the survival of P. capsici oospores. METHODS Thermal inactivation treatments simulated field conditions, through the use of different consta...
متن کاملBABA and Phytophthora nicotianae Induce Resistance to Phytophthora capsici in Chile Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
Induced resistance in plants is a systemic response to certain microorganisms or chemicals that enhances basal defense responses during subsequent plant infection by pathogens. Inoculation of chile pepper with zoospores of non-host Phytophthora nicotianae or the chemical elicitor beta-aminobutyric acid (BABA) significantly inhibited foliar blight caused by Phytophthora capsici. Tissue extract a...
متن کاملImpact of soil health management practices on soilborne pathogens, nematodes and root diseases of vegetable crops
Various cultural practices, including the use of cover and rotational crops, composts, tillage systems, and others have been promoted as management options for enhancing soil quality and health. All cultural practices are known to directly or indirectly affect populations of soilborne pathogens and the severity of their resultant root diseases. Soil biology is a major component and contributes ...
